Educational approaches

Parent-Child Mother Goose Australia; Parent-Child Mother Goose Program (P-CMGP) Enhancing Language and Literacy in the Early Years (ELLEY). P-CMGP ELLEY

We have now completed the Facilitator training, with a total of 25 permanent educators completing the course. We celebrated with Parent-Child Mother Goose Australia sessions on Saturday 10th September. For more information about the please see www.parentchildmothergooseaustralia.org.au

Key educator approach

As educators we implement this approach across the Biik Ut and Biik Dui rooms as we recognise that young children need to develop a strong and reciprocal relationship with at least one other person. This helps foster a secure attachment which supports a child to feel safe, secure and confident in a group care environment.

*The Key Educator Approach was developed by Emmi Pikler

Circle of Security

This is a relationship-based approach, all educators have training to ensure we understand and act sensitively and responsively to children.  Children learn that we are a ‘secure base’ from which to explore and a ‘safe haven’ to whom they can return.

*The Circle of Security model was developed by K. Hoffman, B. Powell & G. Cooper

Hanen Program

We have made a significant commitment to training, for over a year, to learn aspects of this Canadian approach to support children learning about social interactions, language and literacy.  Our focus has been on the Learning Language and Loving It program.

Pedagogy and documentation

We are currently reviewing our pedogogy and documentation to ensure that we are following our values of collaboration with children and families and being reflective in our practise. Our review is being guided by KG Learning (www.kglearning.com.au), who are visiting us monthly while we undergo their year long immersive training program.

To do this we are re-visiting Professor Margaret Carr and Wendy Lee’s philosophical approach to documenting – Learning Stories and learning notes.

Bush Kinder

We run Bush Kinder for our 3 and 4-year-old Kinder programs once a week for Terms 2, 3 and 4, and we love it!  Parks Victoria state that “Contact with nature is critical for our physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being. It has positive effects on our ability to concentrate, to learn, to solve problems, to relax and to be creative.”

National Quality Framework

The National Quality Framework (NQF) is an Australian Govt. program which assesses and rates early childhood services against the National Quality Standards (NQS). This ensures some consistency across the vast array of early childhood centres. The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority undertake the assessment and rating process and is currently under review.

The National Belonging, Being & Becoming framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework  are foundational to our practice.

In 2018 BBCC received the following ratings in the 6 NQS:

  1. Education and Program Practice – Exceeding NQS
  2. Children’s Health and Safety – Meeting NQS
  3. Physical Environment – Meeting NQS
  4. Staffing Arrangements – Meeting NQS
  5. Relationships with children – Exceeding NQS
  6. Collaborative Partnerships with families and communities – Exceeding NQS
  7. Governance & Leadership – Meeting NQS
