Key educator approach
We implement this approach across Biik-ut and Biik-dui (our two youngest rooms), as we recognise that young children need to develop a strong and reciprocal relationship with at least one person. This helps foster a secure attachment which supports a child to feel safe, secure and confident in a group care environment. We have been working with Katherine Bussey to deepen our practices around this approach, while being aware of what this looks like in the context of our service. The Key Educator Approach was developed by Emmi Pikler.
Circle of Security
This is a relationship-based approach, all educators have training to ensure we understand and act sensitively and responsively to children. Children learn that we are a ‘secure base’ from which to explore and a ‘safe haven’ to whom they can return.
The Circle of Security model was developed by K. Hoffman, B. Powell & G. Cooper
Hanen Program
We have made a significant commitment to training, for over a year, to learn aspects of this Canadian approach to support children learning about social interactions, language and literacy. Our focus has been on the Learning Language and Loving It program.
Bush Kinder
We run Bush Kinder for our 3 and 4-year-old Kinder programs once a week for Terms 2, 3 and 4, and we love it! Parks Victoria state that “Contact with nature is critical for our physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being. It has positive effects on our ability to concentrate, to learn, to solve problems, to relax and to be creative.”

National Quality Framework
Assessment and ratings is a process that assesses and rates early childhood services against the National Quality Standards (NQS). This ensures some consistency across the vast array of early childhood centres.
